EUROPEAN
CHAMPIONS 2007
In
the last race of the Female European Championship at Oschersleben:
victory for Iris Ten Katen followed by Nina Prinz and Tina
Katrasnik.
In the magnificent
setting of the 24h World Endurance at Oschersleben, with 40000
onlookers crowding the paddock, pit lane and stands of this
wonderful kermesse enjoying parties, music and games during
all the three days of the event, it has taken place the last
leg of the 2007 Female European Championship which has crowned
the new European Champions.
Outstanding victory for the
Dutch Iris Ten Katen, who has passed the finishing line of
the Oschersleben's circuit before everybody else riding the
Honda Cbr 600 of the Ten Kate team and gaining in the same
time victory, fastest lap of the race and the title of 2007
European Champion for the Superstock 600 class.
She was followed by the German Nina Prinz of the Ducati Y2K
Team, who got the first place for the Superstock 1000 class
and the European title for the same class. Also Nina scored
the female record of the racetrack, riding Friday in dry condition
at the fantastic time of 1.31.1.
After tursday's free practices
and friday morning qualification in dry condition, the riders
had friday's afternoon session, warm-up and race on a wet
track.
It has been an hard fought
competition amongst the Superstock 600 competitors following
Ten Katen. The Slovenian Tina Katrasnik, the English Susie
Grayson (Feisty Racing team) and the Italian Sharon Mermet
(Skr team) engaged a close battle until few laps to the end,
when Mermet slips and the Slovenian Katrasnik resist to the
return of an amazing Grayson. This is not enough to take away
the final second place in the Championship from the Italian
Romana Fede hands (Ducati Y2K Team), but awards the young
Katrasnik with an important second place in the race and with
the third in the Championship.
Good performance on the wet
track for the other English rider Deb Cartwright of the Feisty
Racing team who catches the fourth place in the race as in
the Championship. After a weekend characterized by several
problems on the bike, Romana Fede (Ducati Y2K team) manages
to finish the race despite of a gearbox break just during
the final lap, going all over the last part of the track in
third gear.
No luck for the German Susan Korner, she was not able to ride
due to a fall during the warm-up: it's a pity for the good
German rider, at her first race experience, who had scored
a good time of 1.41.3.
In the 1000 class Nina Prinz
leaps in first position straight away, showing to the opponent
that the home circuit will not let her down. The Italian Paola
Cazzola (Yamaha Piellemoto team) can just control the situation,
having her closest adversary Alessia Polita well far behind,
to achieve the title of vice-champion for this class.
Good result under wet condition for Samuela De Nardi, returned
to the competitions after the Assen defection because of health
problems. In spite of a bad fall during the friday's free
practices, the Aprilia rider reach the third place, the fourth
is for Polita, fifth place for Letizia Marchetti (Ducati Y2K
team), who run into a glide along the tarmac durind the qualification
session.
Big final celebration at the official UEM prize-giving for
an European Championship that, just after three years, is
gathering an increasing interest and participation from public
and media, and it's becoming one of the most important events
of the sport motorcycling.
